چکیده

Received October 6, 1992; revised manuscript received October 4, 1993; permission to publish received July 6, 1994 A novel approach involving a delay-trigger method and doped, glassy polymers has been developed to determine the contribution of the electric-field-induced third-order effect to the second-order macroscopic susceptibility x(2) of nonlinear optical dyes. A submillisecond, variable time delay is employed for switching on or off the electric poling field with respect to the laser pulse. For the several dyes tested at 30 0C the contribution of the electric-field-induced third-order effect (second-harmonic wavelength = 532 nm) ranges from (6 ± 2)% of (2) 4-(dimethylamino)benzylidenemalononitrile to (20 ± 3)% of x(2) for 4-(dimethylamino)-4'-nitrostilbene.

Considerably Enhanced Second-Harmonic Generation in Resonant U-Shaped Nano-Structures

In this paper, we perform a detailed study of the spectral response of the gold U-shaped nano-structures for different geometrical parameters and polarizations in order to obtain significant localization factor in the wavelength 1.55 μm. The obtained near-field distribution of electric fields reveals that resonances in these nano-structures correspond to the even and odd plasmonic modes dependi...

Terahertz radiation and second-harmonic generation from InAs: Bulk versus surface electric-field-induced contributions

Polarized second-harmonic generation and terahertz radiation in reflection from 100 , 110 , and 111 faces of n-type InAs crystals are investigated as a function of the sample azimuthal orientation under excitation from femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser pulses. The expressions describing the second-order response optical secondharmonic generation and optical rectification in reflection from zinc-ble...

Propriétés optiques non linéaires du 3e ordre des milieux organiques

2014 Optical nonlinear properties of semiconducting organic polymers with one dimensional 03C0 electron system are described. The third order nonlinear susceptibility of these polymers is specially high (#10-10 esu) and their time response very short (~ 1 ps ). Three and two photon resonances due to even and odd parity excited states are observed by third harmonic generation (THG) and by electr...

Study of the Transition to Instability in Second-Harmonic Generation with Scale Index Method

The emergence of second-harmonic generation (SHG) is a pivotal issue to the development of nano-optical devices and interfaces. Here, we perform a classical analysis of the SHG dynamics with the aim of determining critical values of the electric field. The signals of the SHG process are nonlinear, so it seems reasonable that chaos theory can be a suitable tool to analyze their dynamics. For thi...
